The Grand Prix is in June
What moved, what it broke, and why half the coast’s websites are still wrong.
The Monaco Grand Prix used to be the last full weekend in May. In 2026 it ran on the fifth, sixth and seventh of June. In 2027 it runs in the first week of June again. It is not going back.
This sounds like trivia. It is not, and the reason is that the Grand Prix used to sit immediately after the Cannes Film Festival, and now it does not.
What the old calendar did
For years the two events were close enough that a single trip covered both. Boats moved from Cannes to Monaco. Crews worked the two weeks as one block. Villas were let across the whole span rather than twice. The pricing, the staffing and the berthing all assumed a continuous fortnight.
With the Grand Prix in June, that fortnight is now two separate weeks with a gap. Everything priced against the old assumption is priced wrong.
What it changed in practice
- Berths. Port Hercule berths for race week are contracted separately from Cannes berths now, and both have to be secured earlier because neither can be justified by the other.
- Villas. A May villa and a June villa are two bookings. Owners noticed this before agents did, and priced accordingly.
- Hotel rates. June 2026 set records in Monaco. Occupancy for the month ran above eighty per cent, and on the Sunday of the race the average daily rate passed four thousand euros for the first time. That is roughly twelve times a normal shoulder rate.
- Minimum stays. Most Monaco hotels impose three or four nights across the race weekend. A one-night booking is not a negotiation; it is a refusal.
The lead time is the whole story
Berths and villas for the Grand Prix go nine to twelve months ahead. Cannes Lions berths were tight six months out in 2026 because of harbour works. If you are enquiring in January about June, the honest answer is that the good options went in the previous September.
This is the least glamorous thing a concierge does and it is most of the value. Nobody gets you a Port Hercule berth in May for a June race. What they can do is have put your name down in August.
Two other calendar corrections while we are here
MIPTV no longer exists. Its sixty-first edition, in April 2024, was its last. It was replaced by MIP London, which is held in London in February. An entire April demand week in Cannes has simply gone, and a number of concierge sites still list it.
The Monaco Historic Grand Prix runs in even years only. It ran in April 2026. There is no 2027 edition. The next one is 2028.
None of this is secret. It is all published. It is just that keeping a calendar current is dull work, and dull work is a reasonable proxy for whether anyone is actually paying attention.
